A day at the Call and Dispatch Center – Naguru Hospital Trauma Centre

One late evening, our emergency shift jolted to life when a young trauma patient was rushed in gasping for air. His oxygen saturation hovered in the thirties, and every second felt like an eternity as we raced to stabilize him.

In a blur of scrubs and urgency, one clinician secured the airway with a bougie while another calibrated the ventilator’s tidal volume. I paged radiology for a STAT CT, and within moments the team had IV lines, monitors, and oxygen tubing in perfect sync.

When his saturation crept above 90 percent, a collective exhale swept through the bay. That milestone meant we’d bought precious time to address internal bleeding and begin definitive care.

Days later, I watched that same patient stride out of the ward—steady, alert, and breathing on his own. In that moment, the weight of every sleepless training session and each donor-funded workshop crystallized into real lives saved.
