The little one who is brought in with hypoglycemia will shortly smile at you when it has been corrected. The mother will be smiling, and tears will be dry. Most interesting is when you […]

The Role of Sample Collection and Management during the Covid-19 pandemic

My role during the pandemic was sample collection and management for Masaka Hospital’s Coronavirus Response Team. This includes collection, packing, refrigeration, recording, and transporting samples. In the beginning people feared to take samples, so I boldly accepted to be trained to do sample management. My two colleagues and I trained other regions on how to […]
Celebrating the Launch of the Inaugural Emergency Medical Care Curriculum

At the 3rd National Health Professionals’ Education, Training and Health Care Conference – 2025, history was written. Together with our partner Malteser International, Global Emergency Care proudly launched Uganda’s first-ever Emergency Medical Care curriculum. This transformative step will equip tens of thousands of EMTs with the skills to save lives between the scene and the hospital. When fully scaled, each EMT could reach more than a thousand patients annually, meaning millions of Ugandans will benefit from faster, safer, and more effective emergency responses.
This achievement is the result of years of collaboration, persistence, and belief in a vision larger than ourselves. From the dedicated emergency physicians at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, to our steadfast partners—All People Be Happy, the Freas Foundation, and the Segal Family Foundation—this milestone reflects what is possible when trust, expertise, and generosity converge. We are equally grateful for the leadership of the Government of Uganda, particularly the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Allied Health Professional Council, whose commitment ensures this curriculum will endure for generations.
But this is only the beginning. The launch marks the first step in scaling training nationwide, building a system where every Ugandan can count on timely, life-saving care. With your continued partnership, we can turn this vision into reality—expanding access, strengthening health systems, and ensuring that no emergency is met with silence.

At the beginning of the year, Covid-19 levels were low, but Uganda and other African countries were expected to see exponential contagious spread. The first cases of Covid-19 in Uganda were sent to one of Global Emergency Care’s partner hospitals in […]
