New Emergency Medicine Training Program in Kampot, Cambodia

The University of Massachusetts Department of Emergency Medicine, in partnership with GECC, is working to establish a long term partnership with Sonja Kill Hospital in Kampot, Cambodia with the goal of helping build a sustainable training program in emergency medicine. Sonja Kill is an important health care resource for the area surrounding the city of Kampot and has requested assistance in developing a training program for their staff focused on the Emergency Medicine model and approach to acute illness. The first step in this process will be a short course of a few days in length focusing on an emergency department approach to common presentations such as chest pain, the febrile child, and abdominal pain. Ultimately, this program is designed to expand into a 2-3 year training program that will allow practitioners to incorporate ED practice into the operation of the hospital.
