Emergency Physicans
GECC is currently recruiting emergency physicians. We currently need help running our training course which will take in Uganda between July 2009 and April 2010. We do work with senior residents (PGY3 or PGY4) as long as we can arrange for a fully-trained emergency physician to supervise them. We are in special need of physicians who have training in regional anesthesia.
Other Physicians
GECC is urgent need of anesthesiologists and other physicians who are able to teach nerve blocks and other methods of regional anesthesia. During the course, we are also interested in recruiting internists, family medicine specialists and pediatricians to help follow up cases seen in the ED and review the inpatient management with our course participants.
Nurses
Throughout the nine month course, we have an urgent need for nurses to work in the emergency department to allow our nurses to focus their efforts on patient assessment and management skills. Nurses are needed to carry out standard nursing tasks such as preparation of medications, monitoring and IV placement. There is also opportunity to teach the nursing students who work in the emergency department.
Other Health Care Providers
GECC does work with APRNs and PAs. Emergency department experience is preferred, but not mandatory. Contact us for more information.
General Information
Given the amount of travel time involved, we generally prefer for volunteers to stay at Nyakibale for a minimum of 3-4 weeks. Exceptions are made, especially for those who have a special skill needed for the course. For more information, please email your CV, dates you are available and level of training to us at:
